Four Things Making Many Youths Poorer In Uganda

1. Gambling/Betting

Betting is rising pretty fast in Uganda today. This was known earlier to be practiced by the elite who would gamble with cars, lands and even houses. But due to online form of gambling, everybody now is able to access it including young people who have nothing but hoping to get free quick money. It requires three elements namely: consideration, chance and prize, therefore resulting to addiction.

If you have a gambling addiction, you may feel an uncontrollable urge to buy lottery tickets, visit casinos, play slot machines, bet on sports, or gamble online which is the most used form of gambling. The specific type and frequency of your gambling behavior may vary. But in general, you will be unable to control that behavior. You will continue gambling even in the face of negative social, financial or legal consequences.

2. Drug Abuse and Women

This should have been the first one; not that women are negative, in fact behind every man’s success there is a woman. But it becomes dangerous when a man has more than one woman. Talk of consuming alcohol excessively, resources are wasted. Of course being a drunkard goes hand in hand with being intimate with different women. It becomes an addiction also which is a highway to the land of becoming poor.

3. Studying

You may wonder why this is in the list, but whether you like it or not too much of everything is dangerous. Education is the key to every success; but our parents and teachers taught us to study so that we can acquire jobs but they never taught us on how we can invest. When I talk of schooling I mean too much of studying. Why should a person use 4 years studying a degree in business, again 4 years studying degree in economics and then wants to master the two degrees and later get a PhD of the two courses. While one spends those couple of years studying there is somebody investing in a business with income of 500,000 plus. Surprisingly, the person who is investing all the time and resources in studies may earn less than the person carrying a business. Schooling is the best but needs moderation.

4. Idling

Every sober mind has a goal target to achieve at the end of the day. Unfortunately, some want quick money and they don’t work hard to get it. They will idle around and their only plan is stealing things with less worth because they have to fulfill basic needs. Many people realize being lazy is harmful when it’s already too late.
